……EMOTIONAL  INTELLIGENCE>>>>>

I don’t normally consider myself to have an occupation, instead I think of my work as I place I go to everyday, do a pattern of often similar tasks and get paid for at the end . That way it sounds so much more simpler and I don’t have to think of myself too highly or feel like I’m carrying the weight of the world on my shoulder .I mean, I’m not indispensable. Not to say I don’t take pride in my work, But it’s not brain surgery either. Plus it’s sometimes not as pleasurable as one would imagine it to be. Still it’s the kind of pain that you can smile through and find something to laugh about… most of the times, anyway. Yet today was one of those days when I felt like I earn my pay. It is not a favour bestowed upon me by my employer or a gift certificate in appreciation for my services, (as some would think)…..It is earned! And how do I know this? because I felt every earning MOMENT….

Today the scene was a tumultuous one.  My work mates, crew….our clients-the passengers- , the facilities of our office- the plane-, were all reading from different scripts.

The result, an amazing firework display of arguments and misunderstandings.
The conclusion…Growth!

We seldom see ourselves mutate….or even mature from one state to another, simply because these instances are often the result of a series of occurrences and events, the reactions thereof, and a whole combination of other things.  You don’t take blue band now and grow taller five minutes later as the adverts would suggest…yet there are clear instances where that shooting star is visible to any eye staring at the sky at the right moment. That occasion when you hear the child audibly say that 1st word emerging from their mouths….that rare chance where you can almost physically see yourself growing up.

I’ll give you a bit of insight as to how it looks; it’s a bit like the picture I painted above. A day you would rather not replay in your head when your emotions were sent spinning and you had to hold yourself not to say something you would regret, or perhaps it’s the day when you finally spoke up and said something you should have gotten the guts to say a long time ago and never quite did. May be it’s the day you threw caution to the wind and dared to do what you knew you were scared of but wouldn’t forgive yourself if you didn’t try. It’s when you stared in to the crowd and felt self-conscious, undeserving, afraid and anxious but you still sang your heart out anyway. It’s that time when you made a mess of your life stood up and told yourself…’never again’. It’s the day when His revelation dawned upon you and all the Christian jibber jabber made sense by a selfless act of Love. It’s the day when things fell apart and you saw your life fragment to pieces, things would never be the same again, but you waged forward still…those are the instances that mark a turning point in our lives…those are the days that mark Evolution.

To realise this takes what my colleague calls ‘Emotional Intelligence’. It takes a big bag of it to realise that you are metamorphosing through the trying moment s into something beautiful. The very thing that attracts your eyes has often gone through rigorous training, failures, changes and adjustments, only looking at it; you would never quite know it. We are the generation best known for instant coffee and fast foods, band aids and quick fixes. And with such an attitude it’s no wonder our very characters are bound to mirror such. We are eating genetically modified food appealing to the eye, momentarily satisfying to the tummy but dangerous to the heart.

Unlike food you cannot speed up the maturing process for a human. Even animals follow the pace…you are not a chick today and a hen tomorrow. If you’re lucky, you might get to see the chick hatching from it’s shell, however, this doesn’t mean it wasn’t going through changes even when it was inside.

So despite our impatience it’s good to know there are still some things that we cannot change and yet age is not the only factor to facilitate these changes. We are not God; He sets the times and the dates. It helps to know there are clear instances where you can see the process at work but most of the time we are oblivious of HIS workmanship in a situation. Find comfort in knowing that even when it’s not as obvious He is still at work, and though you might now always see the worm come from its cocoon and turn into a butterfly, you will one day take to flight and see your beauty spread in the blue sky…….

They sayأ Rome wasn't built in a day ..were you to see it, I suppose you would appreciate why……………………..

Of Amazing Races……..

Of Amazing Races……..

I can Clearly remember the last time I watched T.V with my mouth wide open, rooting for a team, holding my breath, trying to imagine what it would feel like if I was in the position of whoever I was watching was in…. and NO!,….. I’m not talking about the English premier league!,(although it comes pretty close to this),  what I’m talking about is ….the advent of  reality T.V , which is as close as it gets to living a  modern day TRUE Cinderella type of story. I mean in this world there not too many ‘happily ever after’s’, but there’s just something beautiful when you see pairs embarking on a race together, screaming their heads off each other, tempers running high, adrenaline pumping, victories and defeats……course changing mistakes….and streaks of good luck and miracles…that might just get you going to the next leg of the race. Yes my friend…that’s what ‘The Amazing Race’ is all about.

Kinda like the ‘Amazing race ‘called ‘LIFE’ that we live out each day. Perhaps the competition is of a much slower pace…the prize not necessarily worth the coveted US 1,000,000. If anything the stakes are much higher, only sometimes we are not aware just how high…….

Just like the contestants we might think that we have it all figured out, only to have a curve ball thrown right in front of our face….better still, there those instances where you know you have reached the end of the road….only to find out it was a mere bend…and alas…there is one more turn to take…one more opportunity to get to the finish line.

The Game isn’t over till….it’s over.

Indeed…it is not. And that’s why today I would dare you to look at your life and the experiences of each new passing day as a similar wonderful endeavour. An opportunity to learn to grow….to have some adventure…to make mistakes and….to learn from them, and even if you don’t always win…at least you will know that you did not quit… you have the experience of the RACE…… And that is beyond enough.
I’ve managed to watch season 19 of The Amazing Race’ in a day (that’s just how good it was)…..and the contestants, just like the challenges, did not disappoint. The participants profile making the race that much more interesting ……… with a couple that’s been together for more than 51 years( yes, they were friends since they were round about 11 or 13, and are now married for 40+ ) and watching them take up such a challenge around the world was nothing short of inspiring, better still their obvious chemistry and the compassion  they showered upon each other despite the blows, proved age ( as in wine), was more of a strength than a weakness.

                                                                                Ecc 9:11

44 years later, Man City  finally lifts the English Premier League Cup…The race indeed is not to the swift…., time and chance happens to them all….

I like that any time  it’s ‘that time’ to walk away  from the race, the ‘ runners’ always have something positive to say. No matter how ‘torn’ and ‘ broken’ and ‘ disappointed they are at their loss…despite the tantrums, the aches and pains, not to mention ‘near death experiences (yes, I think walking on a rope between buildings falls in the category)…., and even with the arguments that threaten the very relationships that the players themselves are meant to be building…despite all this, they always have something positive to say about the journey ….they always have something to take from it……..and they always say they would do it again…

Life it’self is the most wonderful fairy tale.

While  I would Love to get the chance to embark on such a journey…….truth is in my own little way…I think I am……chances are , I’ll never get to go to ’The Amazing Race’ but you and I are running in one even as we speak……..I Pray that God would make it a little bit more obvious  to us the races that we are running in, and  send us some warning signs when we take the wrong turns so that we don’t have to veer too off the road to realise that we missed the mark……most importantly we need  the Wisdom to stop focusing on the race that other people are running  and run our own…..for that has proven to be the down fall of many.
New zealand wins the 2011 rugby worldcup.

I’ll quote one of the poems they had to be recite in the competition written by  Hans Christian Anderson, a Danish author who specialized in children’s books…… he wrote in ‘The fairy tale of my life,

“To move, to breath, to fly, to float,
To gain all while you give,
To roam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.”

Whether the Journey is a physical one or Not, whether you travel in your heart or in your mind………embark on it with all your might, live to the hilt of where you are. For as Hans so aptly put it

"Every man's life is a fairy tale written by God's finger."
